Chris Quigley is a comedian who discovered his love for comedy at just 11 years old after hearing Hal Roach on cassette and making his first crowd laugh at a youth rally. Known for his fun, clever, and animated style, Chris blends self-deprecating and observational humour that has earned him standing ovations, festival spots, and even a performance at Massey Hall. His latest projects include his second album, Euchre Tournament, on Sirius XM and Apple Music, a children’s Christmas book, Josie the Christmas Saving Cat, and an upcoming appearance on CBC’s The Debaters this March.
How would you describe your comedy style?
Fun. Clever, Animated, Cleanish with some edge, mostly with self-deprecating and observational humour
Who was your favourite comedian growing up?
Well, I already mentioned Hal Roach, but after him, because I was so young when I knew I wanted to be a comedian, I’d watch evening at the improv and Caroline’s comedy hr, but didn’t get a lot of jokes. Then I saw Howie Mandel and he was so animated and silly that I understood him more. Then once I got into my later teens, I got into Stephen Wright and was amazed that he could write jokes about anything and Everything
Who is your favourite comedian now?
Derek Edwards and ,, I can’t remember their name
What is your pre-show ritual?
Depending on how much time I am doing. I headline mostly, so if I have to do 45 mins, before my set I do 45 jumping jacks. If I have to 40 mins then 40 and so on
What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?
I love performing in small towns, people in small towns, I believe, appreciate it more as there’s not a lot of things going on in their town and really want to have a fun time.
What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?
I love my Breath bit, you’ll have to come see me to hear it. Is it my best? I’d say no, but it’s my favourite. I like it because it’s silly and makes you think.
What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?
I don’t watch or listen to too many comics, unless I’m working with them, I may watch a clip or 2 on TikTok, but I don’t go out of my way to listen to other comics/comedians on any kind of medium
Tell us a joke about your city.
I don’t understand the question, I’m from Barrie 😊
Do you have anything to promote right now?
I have my 2nd album out on Sirius XM and Apple Music called “ Euchre Tournament “ I’ve also written a children’s Christmas book called “Josie the Christmas Saving Cat” rated G. I also have T-shirts with my logo “Sober Hippie” as I’m 5 years plus sober and in fact feels like I’m starting comedy all over. I’d say I’m 3 years doing stand up, but with 28 years experience (minus the covid 2). I’m also on an episode of the Debaters on CBC Radio.
Where can we follow you?
PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another local comic/comedian we should know about?
There are lots of up-and-coming comics that are doing great so it’s hard for me to pick one, but if I have to I’d say Jordon Trafford.
