On November 26th, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra will perform a special benefit concert in support of SickKids Foundation.
Peter and the Wolf: In Support of SickKids be co-hosted by Comedian and television personality Rick Mercer as well as by the TSO Music Director Peter Oundjian, who himself has undergone a life-saving operation at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
“When I was three months old, the amazing doctors at SickKids performed an emergency operation that saved my life,” says Oundjian. “The idea of holding a fundraiser for SickKids has always been of great significance to me and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to present this concert as a delightful evening of great music benefiting one of the world’s most outstanding hospitals that saved not only my life, but also the lives of countless children.”
Mercer and Oundjian will narrate and conduct the orchestral children’s story respectively which was written by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, who, while working towards writing classical stories to get younger generations into the music, wrote the piece in just 4 days.
Playing solos as part of the evening’s events are the very talented Coco Ma as well as TSO Principal Horn Neil Deland. Coco Ma is only a teenager but has accomplished a lot through her studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Two years ago, she was chosen to go to Germany as 1 of 12 piano students worldwide who were chosen to study under famous pianist Lang Lang at his education program in Munich. This evening will be a great chance to catch this rising star live.
The event will take place at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on November 26th, 2015 at 7:30pm.
