“A Day In The Life” with cartoonist and photographer, Ryan Andrew White

Ryan Andrew White is a self-taught artist who has a variety of styles. He makes cartoon-like art and short animated films, inspired by his childhood favourites, such as The Simpson’s and Hey, Arnold! At 11, he began making one-page comics in his school calendars, sharing them with classmates and friends and has not stopped working/progressing since. His attention to detail, along with his ability to capture the realism in the subjects he draws has only gotten stronger. There are a lot of bright colours in his art, which has captured the attention of some of the celebrities that he’s made portraits of. He is slowly gaining quite the following as he hones in on his talents, which also includes his photography / photoshopping, and even his writing. Ryan is a film aficionado, something he picked up from his father and has been practicing his acting, as well as directing. Ryan loves making art more than anything else in the world, and as an introvert, he sees creating and sharing his art as somewhat of a therapeutic experience, allowing himself to come out of his shell. He has grown not only as an entertainer but as a person. Ryan remains humble, but has begun to gain the confidence needed to succeed in the industry, he knows what he has at his disposal and what he’s capable of, and he continues to work hard to obtain his dreams.

Which hood are you in?

Born and raised in Rexdale, Ontario. Some call it a ghetto, I just call it home. Mostly a quiet area, surrounded by my extended family. Born down the street from where I’ve lived my whole life, and hope to make my way to downtown Toronto.

What do you do?

Currently employed at the Soho Hotel Downtown Toronto, saving up money to put towards my art.

What are you currently working on?

I am forever working on my drawings, and have added photography/modelling to the list. I also have begun designing my own clothes, and I hope to start up a website and sell my apparel, along with my art prints. I’ve been working on a script for a film I hope to get made sometime in the near future. Spend a lot of my free time watching movies, they help me get into a creative mood if ever I feel uninspired. I’m heavily influenced by my favourites, Quentin Tarantino and James Gunn.

Where can we find your work?

As of right now, I have 2 Instagram accounts, @twinbladestuff for the drawings & @ryanandrewwhite for the photography, design editing, acting skills, and a little bit of my singing. I love to entertain, even if it’s just for myself. I also have a Twitter account.
