These Five Cosmetic Surgeries Reign Supreme in Toronto

While many industries saw a dip in business during the course of the pandemic, plastic surgery has seen a huge influx of patients looking to help treat insecurities they might have.

There is a mix of reasons why this industry saw a boom in Canada specifically. Travel restrictions left many people with excess vacation time but nowhere to go and associated extra income from their lack of travel. Additionally, an influx of work from home positions has made recovering while working far easier. Working from home also has required many to see themselves in their camera daily for Zoom meetings, which has caused some to be more critical in their appearance.

Whatever the reason for the increase in demand, many plastic surgeons in Toronto have found themselves booked months in advance. But what are the procedures having been done?

These are the top five cosmetic surgeries people are getting in Toronto.

Breast Augmentation

While more and more men are undergoing cosmetic surgery every year, the industry is still more commonly sought after by women, to the point where breast augmentations are the fifth most popular cosmetic surgery performed globally.

Breast augmentation has seen many advances in techniques and technology over the years. It can be performed in a multitude of ways, with variations in shapes, sizes, materials such as saline or silicone, and surgical methods used. Fat grafting, too, has seen a surge in popularity, offering a more natural alternative, or in addition to breast augmentation using natural fat from elsewhere on the body to increase volume in the breast.

Liposuction

Liposuction is the fourth most popular cosmetic surgery, mostly due to its wide versatility. Liposuction can be used to remove stubborn fat cells from many areas of the body where people may have insecurities, such as:

  • Chin
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Chest (Popular among men, to remove “man boobs.”
  • Buttocks
  • Stomach
  • Love handles
  • Back

Additionally, liposuction can be performed for fat grafting, where the removed fat can be used to increase volume in another, more favourable part of the body, such as the breasts, cheeks, and buttocks (popularly known as a Brazilian butt lift)

Facelift

Insecurities among the face are at an all-time high, what with the signs of pandemic stress wearing people down, as well as the need for near-daily camera meetings that focus on our faces.

Due to this, the facelift is the third most popular cosmetic surgery. During a facelift, the signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, sagging jowls, drooping brows, etc., can all be treated, resulting in a tighter, more youthful-looking facial appearance.

Eyelid Surgery

The second most popular form of cosmetic surgery is blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, which helps remove the signs of aging from the eyes, resulting in a more rested and youthful appearance.

Some of the things that blepharoplasty can treat are drooping eyelids, dark circles, and puffy under-eye bags.

Rhinoplasty

The most popular cosmetic surgery out on the market today is rhinoplasty or the nose job. Recent studies have shown that front-facing cameras and “selfie” angles can make a person’s nose appear 30% larger than it actually is, a troubling statistic in today’s digital times. This may take into account the surgery’s popularity, as does its medical nature.

Rhinoplasty can be used to correct deviations in the septum, a wall of cartilage in the nose that separates the nostrils. When the septum deviates, breathing problems can occur, as can headaches, snoring, nosebleeds, and sleep apnea.
