For over 10 years the downtown spa has been a first-class destination for a variety of experiences including its Essence of Bees facial and collagen treatments, the Hazelton signature scrub and hot stone massage. I was invited to try the new AWF5 facial and share my spa experience. Here’s what happened.
Here’s What To Expect
Before the AWF5 facial began, I dipped into the spa’s pool; ideal for doing laps, or just floating. In the women’s change room area, I popped into the wet steam room infused with eucalyptus aroma. Everywhere in the spa there are plush white towels and Fiji bottled water for refreshment, and the showers have L’Occitane bath and body products. Also in the women’s locker area (note: good sized lockers, with separate compartments for purse, clothes and shoes), embedded into the ginormous mirror is a small flat screen TV, making it easy to check on the CP24 live weather updates and news while having a coffee. The change room is stocked with Marc Anthony hair styling products and other bathroom essentials.
More about the new AWF5 facial: the Valmont V-Shape and V-Line product range offer effectiveness to the 5th power thanks to an exclusive complex of five active ingredients. The ingredients include: a peptide cocktail to stimulate cellular renewal; vitamin C to protect the skin; a fibro-boost to increase the production of collagen and elastin; a GAG booster to plump the skin through use of glycosaminoglycans; and Densi-Derm to create proper cohesion between fibers – basically regenerate the skin.
My spa esthetician, Gordana, was knowledgeable and pleasant as she guided me through the AWF5 experience. She started by assessing my skin condition; the V-Line Lifting products for the facial treatment were recommended for me. I was told that this line would target wrinkles, as well as smooth and rejuvenate my skin. Bring it on!
The spacious treatment room was nearly pitch dark, which I found extra relaxing (Gordana must have excellent night vision!). The AWF5 facial started with a deep cleanse and exfoliating scrub. Followed by a moisture mask, a lifting serum accompanied by a lifting facial massage, and then a collagen boosting sheet mask was applied. While the mask was on, I had a head, shoulder, arm and hand massage. Once the mask came off, eye contour cream was gently massaged around my eyes, then the final application of a face cream. All professional skin care used in the facial were Valmont products.

As the spa has no natural light, you do get the feeling you’re being protectively cocooned within the space; sheltered from the outside world and the demands of time.
My skin felt absolutely wonderful and looked younger after the AWF5 facial. Between the expert facial massage and the high quality Valmont V-Line products, I left The Spa at The Hazelton radiating a powerful glow.
