Bloom Balance

What is your business called and what does it do?

We created Bloom Balance and we design products that help more people find balance and healing in their busy lives – allowing them a moment of mindfulness and an opportunity to care for themselves in the comfort of their home – anytime, anywhere.

What made you want to do this work?

We are both busy moms and entrepreneurs trying to juggle a million things, so bloom balance came out of a need to take a breath and find some calm in the chaos of life – particularly amidst the pandemic! We wanted to find some easy, accessible and enjoyable solutions for incorporating wellness into our everyday routines. bloom balance grew out of Aliya’s background as an acupuncturist and Sarina’s savvy business mind combined with their obsession with wellness and has now flourished into a company that supports the ritualistic experience of health and healing.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

Our products are made to be simple and easy to use — life’s already busy as it is and we really wanted to make products that would add balance and ease, rather than make things more complicated and overwhelming. Each product in our collection is rooted in Eastern medicine and has been curated and developed with one focus: everyday mindfulness and balance, anywhere and anytime. We recognize that there isn’t always time for regular hour-long visits to wellness practitioners, so we wanted our products to be adaptable for busy, on-the-go lifestyles.

For example, with our Ear Seeds, you can put them on and forget about them and let the healing magic happen, or you can apply pressure to a point to help ease anxiety or stress while you’re on the road, checking emails or during your coffee break. Our Gua Sha can easily be used while you’re waiting for your next meeting to relieve your migraine. Think of our products as a daily boost of energy and calm that you can access 24/7 at your own convenience.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Our customers are just like us – busy individuals who don’t have a ton of time for self-care. The majority of our clientele are women between the ages of 25-45 who want to prioritize their health and well-being but at a time that fits within their demanding lifestyles – and on their own terms.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

bloom balance products are available for sale on our website, and can also be purchased directly from our Toronto-based wellness clinic, wellbe family wellness.

Where in the city can we find your profession?

You can find us and our bloom products at our Toronto clinic, wellbe family wellness, located at 1059 Gerrard Street East or online, of course.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

How does Traditional Chinese Medicine work?

It takes 4+ years to learn the intricacies and complexities of Traditional Chinese Medicine and how it helps bring healing to the body. A centuries old practice that hasn’t really changed much over the years. The root of the practice comes down to Qi, the vital force of life that moves through the body. Any imbalance to Qi can cause disease and illness and alters the balance of forces in the body – Yin and Yang. TCM treatment strives to restore the balance through specific treatments – including acupressure/acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, Gua Sha massage, herbs and movement (eg Tai Chi). Learn more about how our various products help restore Qi by visiting our blog.

All of our products are rooted in this tradition and strive to restore balance and healing to the body.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The best part of what we do is seeing people fall in love with bloom balance products! We have a very loyal social media following and it’s wonderful to see them incorporate our products into their daily lives. Whether it’s seeing our gua sha tool being used to alleviate a customer’s carpal tunnel or seeing our swarovski crystal ear seeds being used to relieve stress, it brings so much joy to us and we can’t wait to bring more at-home products to our bloom community. We have so many ideas for rituals and curated self care products that we want to share with our clients – we can’t do it all…yet! You can follow us on TikTok or Instagram.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

The Definition of an Acupuncturist: “Someone who resolves a problem you didn’t know you had, in a way you don’t understand.”

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another Toronto business that you love?

We love the sexual wellness shop, bonjibon. They are transforming the shopping experience of a sex toy shop from advertising to the male gaze to the pleasure seeker’s perspective. Their mission is to bring accessibility and a sense of play to the toy scene for folks across the entire gender spectrum and their allies, believing that sexual health is an important ingredient to overall wellness. Bonjibon’s co-founders Katie Aitken and Grace Bennett are passionate about education, environment, empowerment and inclusivity and we love how they have incorporated these values into their brand and shopping experience.
