Five Toronto artists have been named as finalists in the RBC Canadian Painting Competition. The annual event was started in 1999 with the mission to facilitate a way to give emerging artists a path to the mainstream world.

Over 500 artists submitted work this year to try for the final 15 and accompanying prize money which totals $85,000. The 1st place winner will receive $25,000, two runners-up will get $15,000 each and the 12 finalists that remain will each go home with $2,500. The winners will be announced in Toronto on September 20th, 2016 at the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery next to Harbourfront Centre.
