What is your favourite local restaurant?

New Ho King in Chinatown. Their beef chow mein is the best late-night or anytime meal.

What is your favourite street in your city and why?

Queen Street West, no doubt. It’s always bustling with great music, cool fashion and eclectic food. Good coffee too.

What is your favourite park in your city and why?

Trinity Bellwoods. It’s so big yet so small, if that makes sense.

What is your favourite music store in your city?

Sonic Boom. I can get lost in there – wandering around for hours without spending a single buck, browsing the vinyl and t-shirts and books and various music collectables. A must-visit for any music lover.

The Osheaga Music and Arts Festival is a multi-day music festival in Montreal, Quebec. It runs this year from August 4th-6th, 2023.

This long-running festival has a rich history, having featured some of the world’s biggest acts across a wide range of genres from The Chemical Brothers to Foo Fighters, Cardi B to Elvis Costello, Radiohead to Eminem… the list goes on!

Osheaga 2023 is a three-day event offering full weekend and day passes, and this year’s lineup has something for everyone.

Here we outline a few potential highlights and what we’re looking forward to!

7. Billie Eilish

It is hard to look past Billie Eilish, an artiste who has redefined the modern pop landscape with her unique attitude and hushed-layered vocals. She headlines the festival on Saturday and we’re expecting it to go bang.

6. Bicep

Northern Ireland electronic duo Bicep are known for their forceful dance music and blistering light show. If you’re a fan of Fred Again.. who are also playing Osheaga 2023, then this is also one not to be missed!

5. Kendrick Lamar

Hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar has been spearheading hip-hop’s evolution now for well over a decade. His headline performances have lit up stages across the world and it’s time for Montreal to be blown away on Sunday night.

4. Lido Pimienta

Colombian Canadian musician, singer and songwriter Lido Pimienta won the 2017 Polaris Prize and offers something a little different and unique on the festival’s roster. Catch her on Sunday where you can expect a blend of indigenous and Afro-Colombian music styles blended with electronic pop.

3. Japanese Breakfast

A lot’s happened for this band since they played the Silver Dollar room in Toronto in 2017 including 2 Grammy nominations. Their celebratory sound will be a perfect Sunday evening soother for the come-down.

2. Altin Gün

King Gizzard told me this band was psychedelic as hell! Although the Amsterdam-based Turkish band are reinterpreting classic Anatolian folk tunes, this time they’ve promised they’re returning to the live-band psychedelic rock they made their name on.

1. Alex G

Alex G is my partner’s favourite artist right now. While he’s based in folk rock he never pigeon-holes himself. Genre means nothing in Alex G’s world, and it might just make you cry.

Learn more about the festival on their website.

Mauve is Toronto’s up and coming pop songstress who has an eclectic and playful sound that touches your soul. Mauve transcends genres to bring you feel-good tracks with hints of RnB through Tropical House and EDM production. Her songs have gained over 400,000 streams and counting on Spotify. Mauve won the 2019 InterContinental Music Award for Best of North America-Pop for her song, “Come Around”. In addition, Mauve was nominated for “Best New Artist” at the 2018 Niagara Music Awards. She has also been honoured by a number of internet radio stations, with features in their programs, including interviews. Some of the outlets her songs have been featured are 107.3 Virgin Radio, CBC Music, IndieCan Radio on SiriusXM, and MediaPro Music’s (Universal Music Group).

Influenced by the deep and emotional vocals of Amy Winehouse and Sia, you can feel the vulnerability in Mauve’s lyrics, as they are placed over a catchy, tropical house beat. She gives credit to her home city of Toronto for providing many outlets and opportunities to explore different styles of music through its vibrancy and the diversity of its people.

I recently released my debut EP titled “Palette”. I wanted to call this EP Palette because I feel like this collection of songs is an embodiment of different emotions and experiences, like the different colours you experience in life. With Palette, I hope to create an expression of music that people can visualize and evoke different feelings from just as a painting would.

I also released my music video for my song “Brand New” at the end of 2019. So far, the song has reached half a million views on YouTube, so it’s wonderful having the support from viewers around the world! Look out for my next video for my song “Must Be”, coming out in late March 2020!

Setting lo-fi electro-pop flourishes against a backdrop of deep, vibey R&B beats, bumpy drops, and weighty, autobiographical lyrics that explore the varied nuances of human emotion, rising Toronto-based pop artist Aiden Myers delivers songs that are at once tender and agonizing, yet decidedly hopeful.

Having collaborated with the likes of Billboard charting artist Kayla Diamond (Slaight Music), as well as acclaimed producers such as Tokyo Spiers (Walk Off The Earth), MKSTN, Joel Stouffer (Serena Ryder, Dragonette), and Giordan Postorino (Karl Wolf, JRDN), Myers has already amassed some 2 million streams across all online platforms. Additionally, his songs have reached the Top 20 on the Viral 50 Canada Spotify chart, and debuted on several major playlists including ‘Time to Dance,’ ‘Viral Hits Canada’ and ‘New Music Friday’.

Myers’ debut EP, Overthinking, is due out later this year
