For the next few months, we have teamed up with our friends at Hinge to bring a Toronto Photo Competition event that aims to both introduce the art form to aspiring youth in the city as well as provide further exposure and engagement for Toronto’s already blossoming photographer community.
The Inaugural Toronto Guardian Photo Competition will include competitions for semi-professional, professional and youth photographers as well as walks for youth in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada.
Submissions are from Oct 13th – Nov 13th, 2015.
Gallery opening of finalists will take place Nov 25th, 2015.
The main competition is aimed at semi-professional and professional photographers of all ages.
Competitors will be able to submit up to 5 images that fit the theme “Life In Toronto”. What does that mean? It means any photo that you think shows the beauty and/or uniqueness of life in our city. This can include, but is not limited to, portraits, architecture, cityscape, sports, festivals, landscapes.

After the payment has been made, please email your 5 photos to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to include the same name on both your payment and in the email containing your photos.
Photos should be 1200 pixel width for submissions. Larger images will be submitted for the finalists.
We have also been organizing some youth photo walks with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada to provide free mentors for youth interested in learning about photography. These mentoring sessions are an excellent opportunity for aspiring photographers to learn more about the craft, the lifestyle of a photographer, and how photography can become a positive outlet for their young creative minds.
Youth Walks will take place throughout October, 2015.
Youth will also have a chance to compete for prizes!
The youth category is for ages 13-21 and can be entered entirely on Instagram.
To enter the youth category, you can can use the hashtag #TGPhotoComp and the mention @TorontoGuardian.
The first 5 photos from each user will be submitted into the competition. The theme for this competition is also “Life In Toronto”. That means any photo that you think shows the beauty of uniqueness of our city. This can include, but is not limited to, portraits, architecture, cityscape, sports, festivals, landscapes.
