Things to Do Indoors When The Snow Starts To Fall

We are fast approaching the holiday season, and with that comes changes in the weather. For tourists, Toronto is chilly all year round, but the winters are unlike many other places on earth. Locals are used to the weather, and by the time the blizzards set in, supplies have been stocked up and the hot chocolate is on the stove. You’ll head out as and when you need to, but once the initial excitement of the snow has worn off, it is time to hunker down and keep warm inside. Here are a few ways to enjoy the winter weather from the comfort of your home.

1) Get Baking

It doesn’t have to be snowing for you to enjoy baking, but baking surely can warm you up on a snowy day. If your skills are limited to cookies, you could try experimenting with new flavours. If you’re looking for something to keep you busy for the run up to Christmas, you could try making a Caribbean Christmas cake, laced with port and rum. It is soaked in the liquor for weeks or even months at a time, and although you won’t experience instant gratification, by the time you can eat it, the weather outside will be around -20 and after one slice of cake, you won’t even feel it.

2) Play video games

Although you probably don’t need an excuse to play boardgames, you could use the inclement weather to hunker down in front of the TV for a few hours, completely undisturbed. You could catch up on the latest releases such as Red Dead Redemption or Football Manager. For evening entertainment, you may want to stay at home with friends instead of going out. You could crack open a beer and play some casino games online. The Casino Games website reviews and explains the available bonuses for first time players, and you’ll be able to snuggle up in a blanket while you play. If there is any time that you can avoid friends and make your own fun at home, it’s during the snowfall.

3) Invite friends over and play board games

Remember before smartphones were a thing and you would actually spend time with friends, often on a daily basis? If you’re bored of  being on your own, get everyone to wrap up warm and come to your place for some board games. You could serve up some of your boozy cake and get everyone to bring their favourite games. After four rounds of Articulate, you’ll be surprised with how quickly you can pass the time with some good old fashioned fun – and although it may get competitive, at least all that heat will keep you warm!

Of course, you won’t want to stay indoors for the whole winter, Toronto can be particularly beautiful at this time of year. When you’ve had enough of the house, you might want to venture outside and frolic in the snow –have a steaming pot of soup bubbling for your return, and you won’t even feel the cold.
